Thai Queen's Birthday

Queen Suthida's Birthday (วันเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษาสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสุทิดา) is a Thai national holiday observed on June 3rd each year. It celebrates the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana, who was born on June 3, 1978. The Queen is the consort of King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X), and the holiday honours her role alongside the King in serving the Thai people.

Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana was born Suthida Tidjai on June 3, 1978. She served in the Royal Thai Army, rising to the rank of General, and was a flight attendant for Thai Airways before entering royal service. She was appointed Deputy Commander of the King's personal bodyguard unit and served with distinction. On May 1, 2019, just three days before the royal coronation, King Vajiralongkorn married Suthida and conferred upon her the title of Queen. She was formally presented to the public during the coronation ceremonies on May 4–6, 2019.

On Queen Suthida's Birthday, Thais wear purple — the colour associated with Saturday, the day she was born — to show respect. Government buildings and public spaces display portraits of the Queen alongside purple decorations. Merit-making ceremonies are held at Buddhist temples. The day is also an occasion to honour the Queen's charitable work and her support of the King's royal duties.
