King Bhumibol Memorial Day (วันคล้ายวันสวรรคต พระบาทสมเด็จพระบรมชนกาธิเบศร มหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดชมหาราช บรมนาถบพิตร) is a Thai national holiday observed on October 13th each year. It commemorates the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), who died on October 13, 2016, at the age of 88 after a reign of 70 years. The day is a solemn occasion for the Thai people to remember the King who dedicated his life to the welfare of his subjects.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej, born on December 5, 1927, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, ascended to the throne on June 9, 1946, becoming the world's longest-reigning monarch at the time of his death. His 70-year reign was marked by unwavering dedication to the Thai people through over 4,000 royal development projects addressing water management, agriculture, alternative energy, and poverty alleviation. He was widely revered as a unifying figure during times of political turbulence. King Bhumibol passed away on October 13, 2016, at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok. His royal funeral was held on October 26, 2017, after a year-long period of national mourning. The day was designated a public holiday to perpetuate his memory.

On King Bhumibol Memorial Day, Thais wear black or dark clothing as a sign of mourning and remembrance. Buddhist merit-making ceremonies are held at temples across the country.
