About Picos de Europa National Park

Spain's first national park, established in 1918, sprawls across Asturias, Cantabria, and León. The Picos are a compact limestone massif rising abruptly from near sea level — peaks exceed 2,500 m within just 20 km of the Atlantic coast. Highlights include the Cares Gorge (a spectacular 12 km cliff-side trail), the Lakes of Covadonga, and the cable-car ascent to Fuente Dé. Local cabrales cheese and traditional villages preserve a centuries-old mountain culture.
